PLEASE HELP TO KEEP PRITHIPURA HOME RESIDENTS SAFE AND WELL
Sri Lankans from all walks of life are facing several hardships caused by the curfew imposed on March 22 to stop the spread of Covid-19. Many people have lost their livelihoods and are unable to feed their families while others are struggling to cope with being deprived of their usual work and leisure activities.
For the Ceylon Fellowship of Service Prithipura Home located in Wattala, the virus crisis has thrown up a whole new set of challenges and obstacles. Meals for the 67 physically and mentally differently- abled residents come mostly from donations of cooked food or dry rations supplied by people in memory of their departed relatives. With the curfew, they are unable to supplies to the Home and as a result, the residents are being fed from our own funds.
Having existing medical issues, including respiratory problems, the residents are all the more vulnerable to catching the virus, which will spread like wildfire among all those at the Home, including carers and other staff, should anyone be infected. All measures are being taken to ensure that this does not happen.
Residents with existing conditions have to continue receiving their medications, which have to be obtained during curfew hours by getting passes.
With the school closed and outside travel banned, the residents do not have activities to keep them occupied and motivated. In addition, the carers have been working continuously for many weeks are unable to return home to see their families while others who were on leave cannot return to the Home because of curfew.
Despite all these challenges, the Committee, Matron and other staff at the Home are trying their best to ensure that the residents remain safe and well. And we need all the help we can get in the form of cash donations to the Home’s bank account or donations in kind that can be delivered or picked up such as dry rations, sanitary and hygiene items, medicine and other goods.
Please call Matron Ms. Catherine Fernandez on +94 112930447 for details of how you can help.
